The Last Girls by Lee Smith
Book Number:RC 56536
384 pages on 11 sides
read by Susan mcenernie
Twelve college coeds, inspired by Huck Finn, rafted down the Mississippi River in June 1965. Now, in 1999, four of them reunite to relive that journey and mourn one of their own. Memories surface as the women reexamine their lives. Some descriptions of sex and some strong language. 2002.
I hate to sound like a sexist, but this is really a chick book. One of the jewels that come in your mailbox, Lee Smith's "The Last Girls" is just that. I've never read any of Smith's books before, but I loved this book. The story she tells spans time, friendship, hard times and great times. Smith has an eye for detail that really brings this story into focus. Starting in Memphis Tennessee and traveling down the Mississippi River to New Orleans, she literally sends you adrift in this tale. Below is the link to her web site. I give this book a 5 out of 5.
Happy reading,
Carla/TexasRed

One of my favorite authors! Fair and Tender Ladies was an excellent book.
